Cooking in the community – Manchester Carers

On the 8th of February, we delivered another one of our cookery workshops for Manchester Carers Centre. We are working with them to deliver our “Refresh” workshops once a month in 2018.

What is Refresh?

Our Refresh programme aims to improve participants’ skills and knowledge about how to prepare, cook and enjoy nutritious food – for themselves and their families/friends.

Participants learn how to:

-Lead happier and healthier lifestyles

-Improve their cookery skills, confidence and resilience

-Reduce food waste and budget effectively

Healthy meals from scratch

Our day course had a Mexican theme so at lunch, the carers learned how to make chicken mole served in handmade tacos alongside fresh pico de gallo – they went down a treat!

Throughout the day we discussed eating habits, favourite chefs and recipe ideas – we also priced up each dish so people could see how cost-effective (and tasty!) it was to cooke healthy meals from scratch.

At the end of the day, we received some lovely positive feedback from people who took part, including John, a full-time carer who said:

‘Thoroughly enjoyed my day at the workshop – never thought I could make amazing dishes like these at home at such a low price.

Thanks to everyone we met on the day, see you again soon!
